How the 17–0 Challenge works
- Select All (Gen 1–9) or Retro (Gen 1–4), your defensive front, and Fullback or Slot offense. These choices lock for the run.
- Each round rolls a region and type. Choose a matching Pokémon and place it in an open position.
- Use up to three Legendaries across your draft. A Legendary still uses the same position-fit rules as another Pokémon.
- Fill all 22 spots and view the resulting 17-game season. Check the Team Score and record together.
Plan around roles, then use the roll
Before choosing a Pokémon, review the jobs you still need to fill. A good pick is one that answers an open position’s requirements and preserves alternatives elsewhere. This is an editorial draft method based on the public scouting rules.
| If the roll gives you… | Think about… |
|---|---|
| Strong Sp. Atk | An open quarterback spot; Psychic is one of its type bonuses |
| High Defense and substantial weight | Offensive line, or an interior defensive role |
| Attack plus Speed | Defensive end, outside linebacker or halfback |
| Speed plus Sp. Def | Safety, or cornerback if its other defensive traits fit |
| A flexible all-rounder | Tight end or middle linebacker; compare the specific role first |
A type bonus is a small addition to the stats. Do not sacrifice a much better stat profile just to match a preferred type.
Fix holes before adding another star
The creator’s scouting guide explains that bad position fits pull the overall score down disproportionately. The quarterback is the most important single position; the five offensive linemen together matter even more. Defensive ends and corners carry more defensive weight than safeties.
- Avoid saving every heavy Pokémon for defense if the offensive line is still unfinished.
- Do not use a special-attacking star at defensive end just because it is powerful in ordinary Pokémon battles.
- Treat the second receiver and second corner as real requirements, rather than leftovers.
- Use the role cards whenever a late roll forces you to choose between two imperfect homes.
Read the results without chasing false precision
Compare Team Scores within the same challenge. Retro and the 151 Challenge use their own scales because older Pokémon have different stat distributions. The exact numerical fit formula is not public.
After a run, review where you used a Pokémon outside its natural role. Try changing one early allocation next time so a scarce trait remains available for the later spots. For leaderboard play, the original site asks you to sign in with X; the account must be at least 30 days old.
Quick answers
How many Legendaries can I draft?
The 17–0 Challenge allows up to three Legendaries. They are graded by the same position rules as the rest of the roster.
Can I change formations during a run?
The pool and formation choices lock when the run starts. Decide the defensive front and Fullback or Slot offense first.
Why did a higher-scoring team lose more games?
Team Score measures the roster’s fit, while the season record is the result of the simulated schedule. A higher score does not promise an undefeated season.
